Travel ice hockey is structured by birth year and age verification by USA hockey. Why don’t these other sports do the same?

Football is a completely different world. My son played against this school and said everyone knew these kids were brought in way before this story broke. However, there have been a few kids attend his school the same way. He told me it was an open secret that the new kids were “living with” other kids on the team.

There are a surprising number of kids with grade exemptions when rules allow- but unfortunately that is within the rules. For example- a kid who is too old by age cutoff & was held back in school- but can play down one year with his/her grade. Ridiculous.

The travel ball world is surprisingly small & lying about age would be discovered relatively quickly.

It’s has not been our experience in LL either, in terms of age eligibility. We have to provide birth certs to show age. That said, the age cut offs are confusing, they don’t make much sense to me, but are legal. Maybe advocating to the overseeing League for more appropriate age level rules is the way to go.

It literally its own little economy, funded by narcissistic and delusional parents who are preyed upon by club teams and pay-for-play tournaments and “showcases.” The hedge funds and PE firms that own more and more of this are laughing all the way to the bank.

SO true. And it sucks for the kids whose parents gets sucked into this nonsense.

NWLL was literally paying players. There’s a reason that few pro ball players come up through little league.
