You're right. After this trip, I would have a conversation with both my mother and sister to make my boundaries very clear. In the meantime, parent your nephew. All these annoyances you listed are solved by being a parent figure while he's in your care.

Buy the kid a charger, tell him if he breaks it again he doesn’t get another one. Take him to the store let him pick out food he can make himself. Plan a way to scare the crap out of him.

Come on, who is going to make an 11YO feel unwanted (other than his parents) when you have no reason to think he's going to be such a nightmare? Most 11YOs would be fine as houseguests for a week. Maybe not ideal, but tolerable, and it's worth it to make a poor lost kid get some structure and affection.

But you can't turn around a lifetime of crappy parenting in a week.

Obviously you can't do that to a 15 year old either but I'd start blowing up the phones of anyone who can pick him up from the beach or an airport or whatever.

WTF! This is a you problem, not a nephew problem. Your house, your rules. You can’t deal with an 11 yr old scaring you, you have no idea what to do? You don’t know how to take his phone and enforce rules? Who parents your kids?

Your family of origin is deeply dysfunctional. I hope you can see that. Your sister is way out there and your mom is an enabler. I would never, ever agree to vacation with any of them again. And if they pull this kind of stunt in the future? Let them deal with the fallout when you stick to your boundaries.

Ok, so have a serious talk with your mom and tell her NEVER AGAIN. And you could have said "No, I did not agree to this and it is not okay" and let them deal with getting him back home from the airport. You were a doormat for agreeing to it.

Really seriously consider sending your nephew home anyway, even though it costs a lot. Tell your sister you want her to pick him up. If she has to fly to do it, too bad-- that's what she gets for having such an ill-mannered child.

If you can't send him home or don't have the spine to do it, then take his phone every night at 10 PM. Any teasing or jump scares and he is sent to his room.
