this from families with more than one kid and total wealth at 3 or 4ish million (let's say). So full pay for each is possible, but not meaningless.

every time the bigger name school was picked over the full ride. and I'm not really buying fit since these could all be fit schools - they're schools they applied to and acknowledge would have been fine. "but she just really wanted Duke" or whatever. I honestly think you all might love your kids more than I do ... because I'd be banking that money for kid down the road.

Mine did it: got the full-ride, named scholarship at a T25 and picked the ivy. All of the offerings, the world-class ranking (based on outcomes) and most importantly the peer group, made the ivy the much better fit. We are full pay but have no where near 3 million net worth. Now if it had been full-ride T10 such as Duke vs Ivy? That would have been much closer, as both schools are T10 and peer groups essentially the same.

This is our net worth-ish and it feels like a jump ball. My kids are super practical and would (and did in one case) take the money

Also the ND earnings data is as impressive as any ivy

WWYD? Not put in my 2 cents on how rich people want to spend their money.

Honestly, I would too.

Me too, but I’m not a Dartmouth fan.

I would not allow my kid to make this mistake
Because you have no confidence in your kid?

agree with this - the differential between Wharton and ND is significant, not so much Duke and Vandy

No.

I know kids how got full rides at similar schools, including vandy, and didn't take them. I don't know parents net worth but could guess.

They will have more opportunities coming out of Duke and Wharton and that could pay off financially in the end.

If my net worth was four million, I'd let my kid turn down full rides at ND or Vandy to go to Duke or Wharton.

Wharton but only if I knew that going there wasn't going to eat them up
