It’s messy but “fluffie stuffiez” which I’d never heard of was by far my 7 year old’s favorite present at her last birthday. She loves stuffed animals and is a sensory-seeking child so it was a great gift for her. I agree about asking what the child is into. Mine also liked a $25 gift card to target. (She picked out a stuffed animal and some candy.) Some of your favorite books for that age if any are less well known could be good too. My 7 year old loves “The Emperor’s New Clothes” because the main character is naked (lol) and surprisingly her friends don’t seek familiar with the story. (Our copy features animals as the main characters.)

I think experience gifts are really the way to go for kids these days. Movies? Gift cards passes to a museum... Good things that don't expire for over a year. My kid loves getting these things because then we get to go do things as a family but can do it on our own time.

Book, bookstore gift card, Yoto or Tonie book if she has one of those devices.

High quality costume if she still does dress-up.

I have a kid who doesn’t use these either. But I don’t mind getting them. I either re-gift or donate it.

My older ES kids have been getting room decor for the past two years -- string lights, a light box, a jewelry box, etc...
