And if you don't have them for catching teens in the act, what DO you have them for? It's one thing to have a camera on the basement door for security whcih serves the double purpose of making sure DD is sneaking dudes in, but why would you need a camera for the tv couch?

This is kind of how it goes. At a certain point, do you really want to catch them? No, you don't. If you have to go down there and you suspect they are fooling around. You make a lot of noise. We never allowed my now college DD in her bedroom with BF, door to basement stayed open, but I didn't check in on them after they'd been dating 1 year plus and were 17-18. She was on BC, I knew they were sexually active. I didn't invite him to family vactions, no sleepovers, but lots of "watching movies" that I didn't police. Start stricter to set expectations that it's not a free for all. Then as time goes on, you adjust.

I would enlist a younger sibling to chaperone and I’d chaperone the rest of the time. We’d do something together or I’d just do something nearby. That’s just a bad situation.

You all having cameras around your teens really gives me pause on allowing my teens to go over other houses. It’s not them potentially having sex (they will find a way like we all did) but that parents have it and can watch it on video. Videoing minors in sexual acts is a felony.

As a former boy who went over to other people’s DD’s houses I strongly advise you to check. We were never up to anything too BAD, but the less likely a parent visit was the raunchier it got (and it was often a DD leading the way!).

You’re not going to stop it if they want to do it and if you do too much wandering through you will drive them somewhere else, but it’s not a bad idea to slow the pace down with periodic checks.

My father had thrown my older sisters boyfriends out (literally physically on at least one occasion) - didn’t phase her much but made me extremely wary of misbehavior around dads… so yeah, I was usually the one listening for footsteps.

I check on my son when his girlfriend is over. They are 16. We don’t have a basement so it’s easier to do a walk through. They have to stay on the main level (no bedrooms). Boy moms should be just as concerned as girl moms in my opinion. I’m not sure what his girlfriend’s mom does but she’s pretty strict so I assume the same.
