This is so true. DS and DW asked me what division we were in the other day and they were so shocked we were in a low-tier division. The only thing he cares about is what time he has to swim to get into the top 16 for all-stars. Oh and that he keeps his streak of all-star cut times at every meet (this one is more important.). I have adopted his way of thinking since and have enjoyed myself more this summer.

This may be one of the most brilliant humblebrags I have ever read on DCUM. *chef’s kiss*

This comes out the evening after divisional so most teams know at their end of season banquet. Of note it does NOT do age ups so a standout that got you a lot of points might move to a different age group next year and not be quite so good.
Besides not doing age-ups, the system also does not account for age-outs. Teams that had really great senior and super-senior cohorts could suffer next year.
I'd also submit that if you're not sniffing at Division A or B, it's more fun for everyone on a team to dominate in a later letter of the alphabet than to get stomped in an earlier one. I'm not all that anxious to move up.
But regardless of where we rank (and it's based on times, not victories, so who knows?), what I do want is for our team to end up in a division with other teams that contain kind people with productive attitudes, willing hands, strong spirit, and a sense of fun. Those situations have always produced the best dual meets and the best experiences. I wish we could measure that.
