I don't disagree with you, but you have typos and errors in your own message so....

You are assuming teachers wrote this? Doubt it. That’s the work of central office staff.

Those SIPs are usually written and managed by school-based SDT, not CO.

It's not ridiculous. Go watch the movie Stand and Deliver.

Those kids wanted to be in that class and they obviously had some intellectual capabilities to handle calculus. That does not compare to the students who may not have English proficiency in ES yet. There is also the chronic absenteeism issue which is huge.

OP, I respect that you don’t want to put the name of the school out there, but I hope that you or someone will write to the school to inform them of their mistake. Sounds like an opportunity for learning.

TBH, what annoys me is that the school will invest extra time and resources into only Hispanic students to meet this goal rather than just trying to help everyone. To me, that’s the problem. My friend who is a teacher calls this out all the time- she says that she is told to only worry about her “black and brown babies.” She says that even though her class is 75% white and that some of those white kids struggle just as much as the POC kids, they are truly not worried about. That was eye opening to me and is way more concerning than a school leaving out a word in their goal.

That was not a typo. Whoever wrote it doesn’t understand the concept.

How do you know? I found it easy to understand even with the word missing. I truly hope that the wording of the goal is not something that school teams are stressing over. Instead, I hope they are spending time working on strategies to help the kids.

People on this thread who are nitpicking really are part of the problem. As is the central office that is passing this goal down to the school level. Instead, we should have a district-wide goal with implementable strategies provided.

Same problem also appears in their other goal.

MCPS figures they only need to focus on the bottom 20%. The others will be fine. Their parents can afford to hire tutors.

We were flat out told we were not going to focus on black students anymore because Hispanic students had lower test scores

Yeah, agreed. It’s very clear what the goal is; people are just nit picking.

It’s an illusory goal so why bother wordsmithing? The inattention to detail correctly conveys the perfunctory nature of the exercise.
