I get what you are saying. Republicans, especially those who are Trump fans, identify with him on a very visceral level, much more than they actually admire his presidential skills and abilities. Discussions with actual Trump fans and videos I've seen of interviews with those who go to his rallies indicate that as much as they love him they have no clear understanding of his politics.


And it's that visceral love that is so bewildering to me. Because Trump is objectively repulsive in every way. His mannerisms, his behavior, his ignorance, his appearance.

Would these people tolerate half the nonsense Trump vomits into the world in a close friend or relative?

The more correct convention is to say "former" in front of someone who is no longer in office. Dude, listen to the editors on this one please.

And Regan is called the late president. Because he's dead.

Mostly articles just use the last name after they've added "former president" the first time.

DP. I’m trying to say this kindly. It is disordered thinking to think that millions of Americans wish you dead. It is also not normal to say that when you hear people saying that they want Trump to die, what you hear is that they want you to die. Please, please talk to someone about this. I wish you the best. BTW my current preference for the election is a new slate of candidates completely, both sides.


To be perfectly objective, Trump has also shown signs of dementia. The big difference is he looks and sounds more robust and walks more steadily than Biden. But he is also old and has his own mental deficiencies (not to mention character and moral ones). Of course this point is lost on his supporters because they think having a year-round "tan" (it's not--it's makeup), having a "hot" wife (they've all seen the nudie pics), yelling instead of talking in a normal voice, calling other people names, puffing out his chest, and acting like a bully is somehow more virile and therefore young.
