you are lucky the groundhog didn't attack your dog.

I once accidentally ran over a groundhog with my car. I looked in my rear view mirror, and the thing got up and ran off. Those things are tough to kill.

When I lived back on the farm, the dogs would harass the groundhogs. They would run in circles around the groundhog so one could jump in and bit the groundhog's haunches. I saved a few groundhogs because the dogs thought this was a superfun activity. The groundhogs actively avoided the dogs.

A groundhog kept squeezing under our back fence, until my dog killed it. There are plenty of groundhogs around, but none come in my backyard anymore. Maybe I should advertise my dog’s services!

If stupidity and ignorance are all that you can contribute, then remain silent.

Uhh...what did you just contribute?

Not true. Groundhogs dig tunnels under house and can cause damage to foundation.

If this is the case, there are many natural repellents that can easily convince them to move along. I believe the stories of groundhog attacks have been greatly exaggerated. They will not eat your children.

Groundhogs are nocturnal and seeing one in daylight is certainly a good possibility that it could have rabies. Your stupid is catching so don't infect your children!

I've seen plenty of groundhogs during the day and none attacked me.

Let your dog sniff. Good mental stimulation for him.

They are diurnal.

They can also damage your property. We had two, several years apart. Was able to catch one, and eliminate it.

It is amazing how many posters want to kill animals that are in their natural outdoor habitat as soon as they see one. Leave the groundhogs, chipmunks, squirrels, etc. alone. They aren’t going to attack you. Some of these people really should stick to high rise city living where they don’t have any green space near their homes.
