I guess if they’re rich enough to hire a parent figure to parent and care for their kid for 18 years.

Some wanted the IDEA of kids and a perfect wife. But it was more of a concept than the actual desire to have kids.
If they didn’t have a wife pulling the overnight shift, changing diapers, and washing dishes, they’d have no interest in kids.

So no, I don’t think we’ll see a booming surrogate industry.

So true. Males want kids but as image props, and avoid all the hard work of raising them right.

Jeff should highlight dumbest posts of the week in his blog. This one would win.

I already know a man who did. He’s super wealthy.

Women want to have the experience of parenting. Men want to have kids. Not the same thing. Using a surrogate would force them to have the exploding parenting.

Sperm is pretty easy to come by. I’m surprised they pay as much as $50.

It makes no sense. Their DNA is devalued because of the rapid mechanism that expels it? The bias that devalues male dna?

Everything is upside down in this industry. It’s also not fair to men either to have 50 half siblings as off spring.

This is a joke post, right?
I was a sperm donor for a couple years. I got paid ~$50 a cupful once/twice a week doing something I did for free anyway.
There's 80+ million sperm in one ejaculation. It's not the rarest stuff in the world.

Do you ever want to meet your children? Curious about them? Why or why not?

- where women freeze (eggs) -
It’s not the women’s fault. So many volunteers and corporate vultures. That’s all!

My dh very much wanted kids. When they arrived, he did all of the overnight duties and also brought them to me to nurse. I'm sorry you don't know any goid men or have close friends who would tell you about their wonderful dhs.

Your DH may have really wanted kids, but I doubt he would have really wanted to be a single dad. He would have married someone else, not had them alone. Women will chose to do it alone but I don’t think men ever would.

+1. PP’s DH wanted a family with kids, like a lot of men. Not the same as getting a surrogate and becoming a single dad. Which would be weird, bordering on creepy.

We should NOT be paying for the act. It’s the material that is valuable. You don’t think all those thousands of years of DNA is valuable? Your families struggles and survival. It’s weird that’s all. The whole system is off. I’m talking more about the scenario where women free and then purchase the sperm.

Someone is getting wealthy off of your cheap sales price gentlemen, that’s all!

Anonymous wrote:No there will not be a booming U.S-based surrogacy business. Medical care in pregnancy in the U.S in the states where women might turn to surrogacy for needed income makes it very risky— no one wants to bleed out in a bathroom or die of infection for their job. Similarly IVF is targeted.

There may be an overseas increase. Bear in mind donor eggs are expensive and men without significant means can’t be selective.

Surrogacy, especially for pay, is illegal in many countries. US is an exception.

Many but not all. Ukraine was a surrogacy destination for years pre-war.

Your Dh doesn’t match the biological norm of like 300,000 years of human and pre human behavior.

+1 the vast majority of men do not want the actual physical responsibility of caring for children. I have stated on here many many times, most men should not have children. The only reason why they do is because the wives are willing to take on the burden. But that's changing. Look at the birth rates in most of the developed world. It's plummeting because modern women now have choices. If they really want to have children, they will do it on their terms.

Repetitive, repeatable, high volume tasks are paid less in capitalism. One man can impregnate hundreds.

The creation of new ideas/things that add value to the economy are always paid more. One woman can only safely have a few babies in her lifetime. Generally, the Health risks go up with each subsequent baby.

Right or wrong, It is fairly analogous to role in reproduction. Men who require a few minutes are paid $50 and women who gestate for 9 months and give birth are paid $50K.
