I have a relative in LA, Cali with a home that has all clover. All the neighbors have it too. Its easy to maintain and soft to walk barefoot on.

I wouldn't recommend you exclusively grow clover as it will be patchy in places where it'd died off (drought, dormant, etc.). I have a LOT in my backyard but I've mixed it with buffalo grass. It's basically a no-mow yard. I can mow it if I want but don't have to. I also don't care what my neighbors think.

I have no grass in my front yard other than some wisps here and there of buffalo grass (tried to plant the whole thing with buffalo grass but it just didn't take in the front yard like it did in the back yard). I mulched the whole thing and am installing mostly all pollinator friendly plantings. Again, I don't care if neighbors don't like it.
