I have skinny purple velvet ones that I think were purchased at the Container Store. And then I have about half a dozen white plastic ones with two clips on each that I think my mom got me before college in 1994.

But before you buy anything, go through your closet and get rid of everything you can.

I saw hangers and started laughing… My eyes are bad!

NP. Where are you buying your velvet hangers? I went online to purchase some this weekend and they all (including The Container Store) had terrible reviews due to the velvet rubbing off on clothes and some said the velvet actually stained their clothes. Based on the reviews, this seems to be a newer problem, so maybe the older ones were fine, but has anyone bought nice ones recently and where did you find them?

Slim, black velvet from Sam’s Club. I bought 25 boxes for every closet. I use pants hangers from The Container Store. I have coat/suit hangers from The Great Indoors

What I haven't been able to find is good skirt hangers. I've tried the clips you can attach to the velvet hangers and they don't grip tightly enough. Suggestions?

I use straight pins to pin them to wire hangars.

Do you run a dry cleaning service?

The thin velvet ones break too easily to use for everything but they're good for slippery fabric or wide neck openings.

I like plastic hangers for regular clothes and keep wooden ones in the coat closet.

I always make sure to have at least one wire hanger.

Wood for heavy items, plastic for hanging laundry that shouldn't be dried, and velvet for the rest.

I use velvet hangers for shirts/dresses and metal ones for pants
