This is actually fake news.
They had to do this to conform to Ohio law, so this has been in the works for a couple of months. There is even a DCUM thread about it from like May.

Because Obama can control Biden and he may not be able to pull the strings of a different Democrat. That’s the real struggle here.
Obama is smart enough to know Biden has zero chance at this point. If Obama is loyal to the Dem Party and Americans, he'll urge Biden to step out of the 2024 race. If Obama is more loyal to Biden, he'll keep quiet and comfort Biden when he loses in November.

In a polarized society that doesn’t even recognize itself any longer due to massive, uncontrolled immigration - ideas and even candidates don’t matter that much anymore. What matters is who can harvest the most votes. Joe Biden could win in this environment. That would not have been true in 1980, before America went through these transformations and there were still norms of competence that people respected.

Democracy means a democrat is elected president. Fascism means a republican is elected president.
