Why does this matter? If my kid wants to go to horseback riding camp what is the difference between me working or staying at home? I have no horses nor a stable!

Four weeks of camp (two full day, two half-day) for DC7, and two (half-day) weeks for DC5.

One or two weeks of half day camp at most for a particular interest. I’m home and don’t need childcare and camps are expensive.

Not regularly since Covid. My kids are now 11 and 14. This summer my 11 year old is doing a half day camp that runs for 2.5 weeks. Then both kids have nothing. We mostly hang out at the pool but occasionally will do outings. Camps are too expensive for us to do the entire summer. We also do a one week vacation in summer.

I generally assumed that all the kids at half day camps have stay at home parents. Or a nanny I guess.

Yes, but we carefully choose summer day camps based on DC’s interests and their gaps. Sent DC to math camp last summer for a week or two because that is an area where they are not academically strong. Also did a Pony Camp and a “Lego Friends” camp. It also is good socialization practice for DC to have to adapt to a different set of kids than their usual ES friends.

Yes. How else am I going to get my "me time" to do yoga and coffee with the girls? Isn't that the point of being a SAHM?

True

What type of camps are we talking about? Plenty of kids with a SAHP go to outdoorsy sleepaway camps and special interest camps that are more like clinics to refine a particular skill.

Yes. 2-3 half day camps of something very specific and can't find at other times of the year.

I thought it was soap operas and bonbons

I still hear that and heard it last month and honestly it can sometimes describes me. I had a horrible day of fighting traffic and crashed at home with Bridgerton and cookies.

+1
All of this is our experience exactly, except we still sandwich the long sleepaway camps with a couple of day camps.
They look forward to all these camps and I feel like it is a great blessing/privilege. I wish I had had such opportunities. It's not for everyone though and I may have been the kind to get homesick, who knows?

Yes, but only for about half the summer. 8 year old DS. I do think he would be bored at home otherwise with just his 4 year old ASD brother for company. Most of the neighborhood kids do camps too.

No we do activities during the days and we do have a schedule we follow. We also take vacations. No TV though unless it's a rainy day and I take pity on them.

My kids begged not to do camp.
