My DC is not highly motivated in improving his SAT, even though it’s the only thing he can do to move the needle. He got a B and a C taking calc BC as a junior.
I still don’t understand what GPA kid has to have to get into Engineering. Does it have to be 3.9 and above?
Just to clarify not CS.
That's a lesson on hyperacceleration for those that follow. I'm sorry the you weren't able to make the needed adjustment after first semester.
It's a shame that the school allowed that to happen, and didn't transfer your kid to Calc AB. There is no good reason to keep a kid in BC with a B grade, when AB is an option.

Can he get any money from UMD? We live in MD.
Last year my kid from NOVA received $10k/yr ($46k COA) and Honors. CS 3.98UW/1560

With an UW gpa of 3.86, your DS may struggle to get into engineering at UMD. It is a very competitive program. Will get no merit.
Do you actually know those who didn’t get with similar stats? Because when I am looking at the scattergram for his school he looks safe. I am aware that UMD is very competitive, but it appears that he falls within green. I am assuming that some of those kids went to the Engineering school.
Anonymous wrote:If you're coming from Montgomery County Schools, then no. You don't have a chance at a scholarship. My kid had 4.0 UW, 4.75 W, SAT 1500, top 5% of class, application magnet program completer, and got nothing. Applied as a Physics major. Offered Scholars program.

My kid had similar stats, was accepted into their Honors program with a nice central dorm, and received a whopping $1000 in merit aid!!!![]()

+1. If you are from MCPS or HCPS better make a backup plan. Engineering at UMD may not happen.
