Bay beaches:
Colonial Beach (can park at the beach)
State Park (Maryland near Annapolis)
Flag Pond (bit of a walk to the beach even with handicap parking)

Lake Beach:
Lake Shannondale in Harpers Ferry has a paid beach right at a parking lot
Cunningham State Park

This one I believe also has parking right next to the beach. Go early as weekends get busy. There’s also a pretty good playground for the kids, and the Catoctin Wildlife Preserve is just down the road.

Just wanted to chime in and recommend some staycations. There’s so much to do just in this area. Like stay for a few days in Old Town Alexandria or Georgetown or the Wharf.

During COVID we would even just find an airbnb 30-45 min away somewhere with a lot of land and bonus points for a pool.

Friends booked an air conditioned yurt at the Cherry Hill Campground in College Park, it apparently has a pool and mini golf on site. They haven't been there yet. But it definitely meets your distance criteria.

I second the Chesapeake Bay Hyatt! If you can get across the Bay Bridge, it is a super fun place for elem school kids. The pools are nice, it has min golf, and it feels like vacation! I took my elderly mother there and it was a good experience.

Downtown Leesburg (not sure if the cobblestones are an issue)

Occoquan Historic District

Harpers Ferry, WV

Downtown Winchester is very cute- good shops and restaurants

Have you been there lately? Lots of homeless and not much in the way of shops as of last week.

Winchester is cute and has shopping and good restaurants. If you stay downtown there are activities within walking distance, which will make things more flexible for your family.

Middleburg?

Also this is fun and low key if the person like horses. I think there’s a polo version. I think it’s accessible but you might need someone strong to push a wheelchair.

Sorry, I don’t know how I missed that part about how you want to rent chairs… Don’t think you could do that at colonial Beach.

It’s fun with kids. Bring your own silverware, they don’t give you any.
