Nothing cheap about Lilly. Maybe it looks tacky to have one of those "matching head to toe" Lilly outfits with the matching bag, shoes, dress, headband, koozy for your waterbottle, etc.

But Lilly has always been a staple of country club style and no one will look at you amiss if you wear a Lilly shift dress as your cover up to a country club pool. You'll actually fit in perfectly.

Agree with everyone, you don't want to be that lady trying to hard or revealing too much. You want to look put together but not a try hard. You want to look like you belong.

Two piece suits are okay as long as they’re covering what needs to be covered. Thongs are definitely a no-go because it’s a family environment. It’s a pretty common sight to see bikinis but they are not the “cheeky” sort everything on the bottom is covered and no tiny triangle bikinis.

Think classic bikinis.

Lilly Pulitzer will fit in just fine. Linen dresses with maybe some needlepoint detailing. Err on the more conservative side compared to Palm Beach. Think more Ralph Lauren than LoveShackFancy...

Two pieces are perfectly fine as long as they’re not thongs or bumkinis.

OP here: Thanks to everyone for your input. I don't think I can do LL Bean, but I'll try a modest one piece and a linen shirt for a cover-up. I appreciate all the advice!

Two thoughts.

1) This isn't Palm Beach, most moms aren't going to be that dressed up for a day at the pool (picture Lily Pulitzer or Lululemon dresses, not Ulla Johnson), and 2) how dressed up they are going to be really depends on the club. They do vary quite a bit here.

The important thing in DC is not to wear something too revealing. You can wear fancy. That's fine. But too much naked curves is not.
