I feel most comfortable in a midi dress and a cardigan with compression socks.

However if really cold, I wear leggings or pants with a forgiving waistband and a long sleeve shirt with a pullover.

Leggings, t-shirt and cardigan. Cardigan because planes are usually freezing, but if its hot in the airport or my destination, cardigan comes off. Comfortable, neat, and appropriate

it depends on you op, if you like wearing maxi dresses and are used to them, then wear them. If you don't usually wear them, then it may not be best time to try.

I wear wrinkle-resistant gaucho pants/ palazzo pants for travel. They are a great compromise between skirt and pants. I travel in dresses as well and have no issue.

Weirdly I do not like the extra fabric in palazzo pants while traveling by plane but am fine with the extra fabric in a dress (and when I wear dresses to travel I gravitate towards loose baggy ones with quite a bit of extra fabric. I don't know exactly why this is but something about the way extra pant fabric can get in the way when I'm carrying bags but that the extra fabric in a drapey dress does not.

One thing I really like about dresses for travel is just the feeling of zero constriction via a waistband or or anything fitted. Like my ideal travel dress is just kind of a sack dress not that different from a nightgown. Especially if I will need to sleep on the plane.

How do you not freeze on the plane? I've been on flights recently where I'm shivering it's so cold. And I'm in joggers and a big hoodie.

It depends on the flight. I'd wear this on a flight to Florida in April or may knowing that I will want to be in something airy and light the minute I hit the ground there. I can wear a jacket or sweater on the plane but also that's a short flight and I'm not going to be freezing on a daytime flight. I wouldn't wear that on a nighttime flight or anywhere likely to be breezy or brisk on landing.

Also regarding people who worry about an emergency -- for international and longer flights I often pack a change of clothes in my carryon. Usually just a pair of leggings and a t-shirt plus fresh underwear and socks. I can usually fit all that in a tiny packing cube or a small ziploc bag. It's for just in case but can also be nice to change at the airport into fresh clothes right when I get off the plane or even just to throw on the leggings during redeye for more comfort.

Comfortable. Easy. And it works with flat shoes.

I’d rather wear pants. If we ended up in some emergency situation I think I’d rather not have a dress on.
