MCPS has it for mostly 11th and for advance 10th graders (magnet/special programs).
Some schools offer it for 9th graders based on the idea that they just finished parts of US history in 8th grade. However no one I know recommends 9th graders take it unless they are really into history AND have the necessary skills to be able to handle the work load.

Hemlers(sp?) history on you tube. Books are not necessary other than the one they give you.

If you want something that is enjoyable, try William Bennett's series, America: The Last Best Hope (but you need the three volume set, not the single volume). Those are written in a narrative style and are pretty balanced.
The most popular choice among AP teachers is Amsco Advanced Placement United States History. While this book technically doesn't meet the requirement for a college textbook, many teachers use it because it provides both the needed facts and exam practice (much better than a typically prep book).

What do you do during class time? Discussions based on the readings, slides where you introduce new content? I’m just curious ….
