Depending on the SN, Frederick may not be the best choice. I have friends who have had to pull their kid from Frederick County schools due to poor support for their kid.

Damascus or Poolesville would get you into MCPS.
Prices have really shot up in Poolesville. $600k is tough for a SFH.

For 600k? Three kids and an elderly relative probably means at least four bedrooms and no townhomes. I’m not seeing anything in Lorton or Reston for that price. And nothing over 1200 sq ft for that price nearby.

Clarke County, VA if you want a large house for your budget. Look at Berryville.

I mean the obvious answer OP is the exurbs if you want enough space to comfortably fit 6 people. How much of a commute are you willing to make, do you have flexible schedules?

Good lord he said good schools- that’s title 1 district so facilities will be excellent but attention lacking and special needs nonexistent. (Incredible number of spec needs positions open in MCPS. I think parts of DCPS are better than most of MCPS. I would stay put than take this joint and cluster.

Frederick but not with commute. Super KIND district. For disability I pray it’s dyslexia - there is remediation with a private tutor from ASDEC. Good luck! Was faced with similar decisions and it’s worked out better than I ever could have expected

You need to be more specific on what larger home means to you and longer commute. Maybe Frederick County?
