It is a fair point if customers or execs were on the call and he does not want them thinking you are taking the call from somewhere out in the open. Additionally it could raise info security and privacy concerns. If this was more like a team meeting, then yes it’s overkill.

What! Just when you think you’ve seen it all, in terms of unreasonable asks in the workplace. Obviously that pesky ambulance should have diverted down a side street, so that it need not have disrupted your work call.

Some people really are just nutty. Imagine being ticked off by this.

I work from our screened in porch all the time. Never been a problem.

Might be time to look for a new job, because that's seiously an insane request. It wasn't a crying baby that you were caring for/working, just the ambient noise of your location

I'm ok with noises...I'm not ok with the screen constantly bouncing because you are walking around or have your laptop precariously perched on your actual lap. And then the bobbing back and forth while you type in the chat. Just find a steady surface, I don't care where.

Use headphones. Many are now designed not to pick up ambient noise at all. I had a worker drilling right next to my home office door on a call once and I apologized for the noise, but the person on the other end said they couldn't hear anything.

ALL ambient noise is annoying, it's not just about the birds.

This is a good reminder that for a lot of people, the concept of being happy and comfortable while working negates the very concept. A ‘good’ worker is one who is unhappy but does what the employer wants anyway. They feel like they are getting less ‘value’ if you aren’t actually unhappy doing while doing their bidding.
It’s the American way.

I would have just said I had a window open. But if boss feels strongly about it, just work outside when you're not in meetings.
