Another vote for a lightweight wheelchair for transport. My mom got the necessary paperwork so that Medicare would pay for it. (Though, as I recall, there was something about it was free for only X period of time. Same with the hospital bed. We gave back the wheelchair and just bought the bed outright once her X months were up, rather than pay a monthly fee.)

As to the wheelchair, it was heavy and and hard to deal with taking her to doctor's appts.

But, she wasn't sitting in it at home.

This. I got a lightweight transport chair from Walmart.com for my dad. It weighs 14 lbs. You do not want a chair that weights like 30 or more lbs. It was maybe $120?

This being said, a transport chair has small wheels and it was fine for getting him into dr offices, ect. but not for long distances. I used it at Disneyworld and, although he only weighed about 130 at the time, it about did me in pushing it (it was his last time ever to Disney and I'm so grateful for the memory even though it was exhausting!)





My husband got me one from Walmart also. It was from a medical company and got here in 3 days. I think it was $150.
He pushes me around the house. It's smooth rolling and very easy to maneuver.

Most Lion's Clubs (nationwide) have a medical locker that seniors and other community members can get medical items at no cost. No forms to fill out, nothing.
