My parents stopped when I was 15 (I didn't get anything for my 16th birthday). We're just not a big gift-giving family but I know that my parents love me and we still do vacations and road trips together. I'm a recent college graduate, and I've always had all of my needs covered and I've never really wanted that much, other than experiences.

Never. My inlaws still give us birthday and holiday gifts and my mom did until she passed away. My dad (who was still married to my mom when she died) never did $hit, and continues to do nothing since mom's death.

I honestly can't remember the last time I got a birthday or xmas gift from parents. Maybe a tablet when I was 12 for school?

Never (unless you don’t have enough money).

Odd question

I’m 47 and my parents still ask me what I want and I usually pick out something around $25. I get them presents too, and it never occurred to me to stop getting gifts for DS. I don’t go overboard, but birthday presents are fun!

My mom is 84 and not only gives gifts for birthdays and still thinks she is Santa Claus, but is now inventing reasons to give gifts. I guess it's her love language? She's very thoughtful.

Your mom sounds thoughtful and intuitive. I hope my kids think the same of me.

My kids are in their 30s and I still buy them gifts - nothing big, though. I usually budget a couple of hundred dollars per kid per birthday & the same for Christmas (and now for my son-in-law as well).

That age, my mom started taking me to furniture stores to let me choose a lamp for Christmas. One time she bought me a used rug at auction (with my approval). Other times, she’d just give me a gift card to a clothing store. She loves buying me gifts, but gets mad when I get anything for her.

Never. I'm almost 70 and my kids are in their 40s. I get them a book I know they want every year, Amazon delivers it. They love it. They also get me something, usually a gift card or take me out to dinner. It's mainly an acknowledgement both ways, we have never gotten each other expensive gifts for anything.

I'm 55. Still getting gifts from mom and it never occurred to me I would stop buying gifts for my kids. If my kids wanted me to stop and just do an activity or give money toward a big purchase they were saving for, I would do that.

^ but coming back to say, it depends on your family dynamic. Some families prefer to give an experience or nice dinner. If my mom had just been giving me gift certificates, etc I probably wouldn't have appreciated it as much as something that she saw that made her think of me. No wrong answers here.
