Mine definitely used the box of condoms I sent him up with, and probably many more after that. Better than a baby in nine months.

All three of my kids actually vacuumed!

The kids use the storage ottomans to hide booze during dorm inspections and to get up onto raised beds. My kids all used the ottomans.

Yup! During "dorm inspections", the officials cannot open anything that is not "school property". So storage ottomans are perfect for that

I take that back — he did use the extra top sheet for a toga once.

My DS did use Tupperware bowls to make ramen, etc. in the microwave.

Cleaning supplies were lightly used, but it was nice to have them there when we were cleaning up for check out. My DS did say at the end of sophomore year that he would have liked to have a small vacuum, which shocked me. I didn’t get him one because I thought he’d never use it.

The little safe we got to put his medication in was used, but probably not necessary.

DS didn’t use the lock for his bathroom locker until his toiletries were stolen, and then he did.

Another for plates and bowls and some sheld stable food.

But, mine did use the storage ottoman alot. It served triple duty as storage, an extra seat and a step for her lifted bed.

Way back when my mom bought me a Crock Pot and you can guess how often I used it, lol.

Do not bring the entire wardrobe. Kids who have spent their life dropping items in the hamper—after wearing them them for two hours, expecting that they will be laundered before magically appearing on a hanger in their closet—learn very quickly to wear a pair of jeans more than once, change the tshirt but don’t wash the sweatshirt, etc…. Do load up on socks (a dozen identical pair, so that “pairing” is not needed) and underwear.

We started buying higher quality clothes and fewer of them around senior year of high school. Worked well.

It varies. My DD used the storage ottoman. both years to get into the lofted bed and then obviously for storage.

yea, my DC told me they didn't need it. I packed some paper plates for them, but I don't think they used them much.

They hardly used the cleaning supplies - no surprise there.

Honestly, they don't need that much, especially if they are staying in a dorm.

You are better off getting a list of what they do need, rather than what they don't.

My DD had nice cooking facilities in the dorm and did a good bit of cooking so a plate,bowl, silverware were all used.

ok, but know your kid, if you know they don't really cook much, then it's pointless

It's funny what's listed here as things that their kids did not use, my daughter did use! Such as the storage ottoman and second set of sheets.

Well, she used Paper plates and bowls she did not use those as much having access to the campus food services.

Let me think about some things that she mentioned that she did not use and why:
she thought she would use an ice tray, but did not use that. we gave her snacks and included microwave popcorn. She ended up not popping the popcorn because she said it would make her whole room stink and she had a roommate. So she did not use that. by the way, we rented a microwave and refrigerator from UMD dorm services so she had both the microwave and refrigerator in the room.
we bought her a little desk lamp, and she said she never used that. No need because her computer is self lit.
