Has anyone used Slyvan Learning centers or Huntington centers for test prep?

This is what I’d recommend for a student without strong self-discipline. They do the work IN class. Private tutoring requires independent work between sessions and is best for the self-motivated.

I’ve heard that prepscholar is good. I attended a webinar one time (DD did not do SAT prep in the end) and was impressed by their “strategies” to answer questions. While kids should absolutely KNOW the answers rather than game the test, I think these strategies will help with speed. Maybe do the free webinar if they still offer it.

Did not have good experience with Applerouth. Tutors phoned it in and the only time we were asked for input was when they wanted to know where dc was attending college.

Marks Education has great tutors and they have offices in Bethesda, DC, and McLean for in-person sessions. They are experts in SAT and ACT test prep and have decades of experience. If you can afford it, they are by far the best around. Kaplan, Princeton Review, and C2 all hire tutors without any training. Some of them are probably okay, but definitely no guarentee.

Try Mr Shyam at FocusSATPrep@gmail.com

He worked with my kid and 4 others from his school for this past August SAT.

I am not sure if he accepting any new students, but he is always happy to provide suggestions on how to prepare for the SAT, which resources to use etc.

He started helping out a few kids ( along with his son) after seeing how these other places are charging an exorbitant amount and barely covering the materials required to do well on the Digital SAT.

Worth having a chat IMO.

Good Luck!

We did one-on-one tutoring between attempts 1 and 2 (after disappointing first test results). Had big improvement in 2nd test. Thought that was it but then kid wanted to take it one more time. Did Khan Academy on own and improved it even more. $ does does not equal impact.
