That’s actually what has been happening. DC working with MD based groups to move the migrants to MD and out of the city.

Yes, our government has been asking for them and getting them, and now we are having trouble paying for them.

Here's a good overview from last year

That’s encouraging. But they need to redouble their efforts.

100% sincere, not a troll. I live in Montgomery myself (Chevy Chase View, specifically) and I know that many of my immediate neighbors and most people in the county support immigrants and hate what TX and FL is doing to them. So we need to lobby those officials in TX and FL to send them here, where they receive the help they need.

Most people in the County supporting immigrants does not mean that we want to pay yet higher taxes for even more social services for immigrants. Look, certain schools in MoCo are now largely focused on bringing up the bottom (typically the immigrants from Central America, many who are illiterate in their native tongues). I moved to MoCo for the schools, yet ended up having to pay for private, at extreme cost, to simply insure that my kids got some teacher attention.

Speak for yourself. I would happily pay higher taxes for programs that brought more migrants here as took care of them. And I support raising your taxes too, because I and those who care about these people shouldn’t have to do it alone. You can afford to chip in some more, too.

With just what you’re spending on a private each year ((to keep your precious little darlings away from brown children)) you could help dozens of people from other countries who came here with nothing. That’s how much your taxes should be raised - by whatever you’re paying in tuition each year. You can clearly afford it.

I’m a single person. I don’t have the resources of a county. But the county I live in has plenty of those resources, and more importantly, can afford more. And the tax base will support it.
So let’s bring them here. We can handle the burden.

Do you have a spare bedroom? Go ahead. No ones stopping you.

Haha I said this to my super liberal sister in Denver. So far her spare bedroom is not open to any comers though. Like all progressives, taxes are her charity/solution.

Blame the republicans that no doubt control her HOA board. I’m sure there’s covenant rules about sharing homes with unrelated people.

This is a standard GOP/nazi tactic.

Then they can just pay a little more. It’s a small price to help people whose lives are at stake. And if it saves even ONE life, it was worth whatever the cost.

Contact NGO’s and link them up with your local churches. There’s room here for hope and growth.

Anonymous wrote:Was thinking about this earlier today and was wondering why Texas and Florida have only sent bus loads of migrants to DC, and not to Montgomery County.

Montgomery is exactly the kind of place Texas and Florida SHOULD be sending them. There’s a well-funded array of social services to handle the needs of newly arrived migrants. The population is overwhelmingly progressive and would welcome more immigrant POC with open arms. County taxpayers would willingly pay higher taxes for programs that served new arrivals, and would similarly approve of zoning changes to allow more subletting of domiciles and higher density housing.

How does one get in touch with the state government officials in TX and FL who are involved in relocating migrants? Because I would want them to start sending busses here rather than DC. We are much better equipped to serve them than DC.

Those migrants couldn't find work in NYC so they are now here in DC and maxing out our resources in all of the nearby counties. The person that posted this literally knows nothing about what's going on.
