Anyway, that's not what I would base my decision on, but I would probably also be wary and prefer a buddy system. Even on some nice weekend days there's often large stretches of that trail not seeing anyone. Maybe one of those loud whistle key chains?


Chandra Levy was completely random. It was also more than twenty years ago and very rare.

Not in RCP. I have a friend who got into a very scary situation there. Luckily, she had her dog with her. But a guy blocked her path and wouldn’t let her pass (it was on a fairly remote, one-way uphill path with the water at the bottom); he didn’t move until she screamed at a passerby to help.

A woman was raped when she and a coworker took a walk on a trail in silver spring at lunch. Even during the day with a buddy, women are not safe.
This was a few months ago in Burnt mills area.

Same.

I no longer even walk my large dog on some decently traveled trails that I used to frequent, due to the increase of incidents (indecent exposure, harassment) being reported.

Noope. I’m a 46 year old woman and got completely lost in eco with my 14 year old daughter. We had left my younger daughter at a birthday party near some picnic tables close to the stables. It took us a long time to find our way out… got seriously turned around and there were no markers. My phone was of little help too.

I’m pretty familiar with that part of RCP and I’ve never seen a homeless person or a drug addict (??) that far north. In general I’m not afraid of either, unless they give me reason to be. Some random man walking alone would probably make me more nervous.
