Super Goop Play is my favorite for ease of applying and rubbing in

Blue lizard applied with a makeup brush - but wash the hell out of the makeup brush after application or it will get gross. Alternatively use those disposable makeup sponges from the drugstore.

The stick kind is easier to apply than lotion, for us at least.

I occasionally use my Elta MD stick for DD’s face. I recently caved and bought the Blue Lizard stick (just as expensive on a per oz basis), which my daughter, who is usually difficult with these things, seems to like.

+1. We use a combo of the supergoop mineral stick, and the regular (non-mineral) supergoop lotion.

I agree with PPs that spray sunscreen is a bad idea due to the possibility of breathing it in. I am always surprised when I see parents spraying that stuff all over the place. I don't even like being downwind of it.

The Boots brand kids roll on. She loves doing it herself and then I do a quick job rubbing it in for her. She uses a ton so I’m actually confident with this method.

I try to pretend I’m giving her a face massage and I think it helps me be a little more gentle. I don’t worry about white cast or things being not all the way rubbed in at all. She doesn’t care, I don’t care, and it will just rub off anyway.

The neutrogena kids stick (the yellow one that’s the size of a deodorant) is good. And honestly the Trader Joe’s ones are all good - spray, lotion, and face. Sunbum does something weird to my skin and DS, like it completely sucks natural moisture out of our skin.

What do folks use for chemical UVA protection that’s easy to apply and doesn’t stain or leave a white cast?

We use the spray Up and Up from target. It has UVA/UVB and is reef safe. There is also a cream if you prefer. I believe Coppertone Sport is the same though. We have never gotten sunburned using it.

I switched to Biore Watery Essence for all of us and haven’t turned back. It rubs in so much quicker on a wiggly child and feels nicer than anything else I’ve used.
