You need to find a therapist for your child. This is not normal.

OP, we had an incident occur at our daycare where a child starting having odd potty habits when they were previously potty trained. Unfortunately it turns out they were being abused by a family member. We were alerted about it because initially the kid said they were abused by a teacher, and all of our kids had to speak to authorities and kids to a forensic investigator. We learned that unfortunately a change in bathroom habits is a sign of abuse.

I really think this kid has been abused.

He needs a comprehensive evaluation. Start at the pediatrician, but you'll probably need to see a psychologist. It's likely he has at least one diagnosable disorder. Not to worry, it can be fixed! But early intervention is key.

Are you a foster parent? this is not true (and it's age dependent).

For the OP, depending on your kid - I'd get an evaluation. It could be normal kid behavior or sometimes things like this could be a sign of abuse. I'm not suggesting it's anything, but it might give you peace of mind.

I had a friend who did this in elementary school. He did it outside, at recess on several occasions and I remember it to this day. He turned out to be a very normal teen and now completely normal adult with a lovely wife and kids.

Sometimes little kids just do weird things.

You should 100% talk to the pediatrician but I wouldn't panic.

Was he booted from summer school? How did they handle it?

If you asked him why he did that, what did he say? I can't imagine the response.

Im curious about what was going on in his head and what he said about it after. Does he actually need to be told not to do that?

i can't say if your kid is normal or not -- but I will add that often the first time a kid is in a public bathroom without an adult is in a school setting.

Suddenly they are with other kids and boys have urinals. For most 5year olds through probably high school -- this is an opportunity to do what they would never do at home or with an adult watching.

So parents -- teach your kids HOW to behave in a public restroom.

I can see how it might feel like an isolated thing, maybe he thinks it is funny, but it sounds awful for the other children. Early intervention is always better so I would absolutely seek advice from a behavioral therapist on this.

This is not normal and you know it. Your child needs help.

He isn’t “perfectly normal” if he is being made to attend summer school after first grade. It means there are significant delays in his learning. Just FYI.

Your child is a bully OP. The mean kid that scares the other kids.

What are the consequences for his actions? Have you had him evaluated? Considered therapy?

I’d seriously tell him that you will send him to school with diapers if he is not using the bathroom the right way. The fact that he’s had multiple incidents like this means that he needs some strong consequences to stop this behavior.
