Agree with this. I’m 47 years old and also 5’4”. I’m pretty small boned but last year was around 128 (which is heavy for me.) I’m down to 117 now. I aim for 90-100 grams of protein per day and 25-30 grams of fiber per day. The protein and fiber help me feel full. I eat more calories in a day than you (probably 1600-1800), but I'm active. 30 minute brisk walk daily, and another short walk after dinner. I aim for 10,000 steps a day. I also strength train, cycle, or do yoga/stretching 30-45 minutes a day. Diet probably matters more than exercise if you are trying to lose weight. What are you eating?

I’ve had luck doing similar: I have to make sure I’m not hungry at bedtime. Nothing but water and coffee until 10am. I eat after I go for a walk. It took a prediabetes diagnosis for me to finally get serious about it. No sugar. Upped fruit and veg. Weight is down. Seeing better. Energy is up. I track every single bite.

Yes, you will need to eat more for a couple of weeks. Reset your metabolism. Once your body gets back to processing calories normally, you will lose weight.

I exercise daily, avoid processed carbs and sugar (except for a small square of dark chocolate per day), and am not intaking more than 1300-1400 calories a day. After four months of doing this, my weight has stayed exactly the same. I really despise HITT workouts, and cannot see myself sticking to them on a regular basis, but I do weight training in addition to cardio. Is it possible that my weight is never going to get to where I want it? What is wrong with me?

Have you put on muscle?

Body shape changes with age and hormones. Perhaps that’s another contributing factor?

Nothing is wrong with you. You’re 50. Your metabolism has slowed, body composition is changing, and even if you still have your period you are likely in menopause.

Omg just buy some new pants and one new suit if you actually need to wear one! You are not even overweight and it sounds like your diet and exercise are quite healthy. Don’t go starving yourself or devoting a huge portion of your mental energy to tracking your food intake, what a waste of your one precious life.

It is a bummer when your clothes don’t fit, but they’re just clothes. You likely don’t need to replace your whole wardrobe, just a few key things. Pretend all your too-small clothes were lost in your luggage or stolen or stained, what would you do then? Just do that, and release the guilt/self-criticism that you’ve plunged yourself into.

OP, would you give us a typical day of what you eat?

It's usually food, not exercise that is the culprit

No advice, just wanted to say that this post really resonated with me, right down to avoiding all sugar minus a square of dark chocolate. I used to be able to work out a little, cut out a few things and those 5lbs would fall off. This is not the case anymore. Sigh.

You sure you want to risk looking older than your age?

Are you sure you’re only eating 1300-1400 calories? Even if you’re eating just a couple hundred more than that, it’s probably enough to maintain your current weight instead of losing weight. Now that I’m in my 50s, I find I need fewer calories to maintain my weight.

Irrelevant because the OP never said the suits were four years old, but most of the clothes in my closet are more than four years old.

I don’t necessarily have the answer because I’m experimenting with different things myself, but are you eating enough protein and fiber? From what I’m reading, those things matter a lot more as we age.

I’m 50, 5’1”, and am at 120lbs. I was 108ish for DECADES. I’ve started to up my strength de-focus a bit from cardio. I haven’t lost a lot of weight on the scale and I wouldn’t say my old clothes fit the way I’d like them to, but I’m noticing body comp changes. Keeping at it for a few more months to see what happens.

You shouldn't be wearing 4 year old suits anyway.

Also where did it even come from that the suits were 4 years old? She said she had been trying to lose weight for 4 months, the age of the suits is unknown beyond that.
