Many good ideas here, but situations where you passively watch or listen to something - concerts, movies, plays - are bad for getting to know a date. The exception is comedy shows, because they make you laugh, which puts you in a good mood, which makes for a better connection (that assumes that you're seeing good comedians, though). The best dates to get to know someone involve light physical activity in circumstances where you can talk. Hikes, billiards, bowling, mini golf, stuff like that.

I once spent a date sharing banana pie cream ice cream out of the carton in a parking lot while people watching. ice cream date highly recommended

Pp one more time…I miss DC

The national arboretum is interesting (my mom loved that they had all 50 state trees) and often a place even DC residents haven’t been. I also like the botanical gardens which could be good for just a walk / chat.

I don’t live in DC anymore but just went to see The Moth in my city and saw a couple on a date and it looked like a good date. Lots of laughter, some serious stories but not many, and time between stories to chat.

I was going to suggest an escape room and see someone else has. I also agree jazz in the sculpture garden could be fun.

Years ago I did a great walking tour of Georgetown’s history / architecture. That guide sadly passed away but online it looks like there are some good choices.

If you’re museum people seeing an exhibit and then grabbing coffee could be fun. I also like walking around some of the estates / gardens the area like Dumbarton oaks or Hillwood Estates. Finally renting kayaks for the Potomac is fun.

One of the silliest / cheapest / most inexpensive dates I had with my husband years ago was paying a dollar or two each and signing the waiver to test out / drive around some segways at the Segway store and then going and buying some chocolate.

If you get to the point you want an entire day trip, twice we left early in the morning, took the train to Philadelphia, saw a show or exhibit that wasn’t coming to DC, had an early dinner and took a train back. It was a long day (7 am to 11 pm or so) but fun and different than our typical adventures.

I am late 40s today and recently divorced but not looking to date at the moment l(recent divorce only 9 months...). I will come back to this thread for the great suggestions so far..

Summer usually has free concerts and outdoor movies. Look at Wolfe Trappe schedule. We went on a lot of bike rides early on.
