I'm perfectly happy with their decision and support it.
What the heck???!

McLean High School was absent for regional and state tournaments.

Anyone one knows what's going on? If a Mclean HS district student couldn't go to TJ, will this student still have chance to participate STEAM clubs in McLean HS?
McLean is on the regional and state list. Ranked 12 and 20 (2 teams) at regional and 27 at state. I think your concern might be misplaced.
Only 27 teams competed at States so you don't know what you're talking about. Their ranking of 24 in every single event indicates that they didn't actually send a team. Same deal with McLean Silver at the regional event. McLean Red participated but didn't do particularly well with their 12th place finish.
What is actually astonishing about the Centreville Regional Tournament is that Fairfax HS won, beating all 3 TJ teams.

Fairfax HS came in 3rd at the State tournament - TJ and Langley went to Nationals.

SO is not popular at TJ. Way too many other science extracurriculars.
