One thing I really liked about the Amalfi coast is we stayed in some really spectacular but not very expensive (or terribly posh) hotels. Le Terrazze and Hotel Costa Diva come to mind. Like Hotel Costa Diva is arguably kind of dumpy. But I mean, you’re dining under hanging lemons with the most gorgeous view of the sea, and the food is great and the hospitality is so warm. It was incredible.

It really depends where you stay. Maoiri was totally fine, but yes, Positano and Capri were completely packed. I don't think I'd ever want to stay in Positano, even off season, it's just fun to walk through for the day. The beach area wasn't great w/ the rocks and people throwing cigarettes wherever, though the water is lovely and clear once you get off the coast.

We were there in April- already packed and frankly not worth it with those crowds.

DP but really agree with this - farther from Positano is much better and less crowded. But you will hit crowds during Ferrugusto regardless - there's a big celebration with fireworks, etc

We did it. Would stay in a town farther from the touristy areas. We chose Maori (if you go, Casa Ferraiulo is excellent for dinner).

Visit Ravello, very worth it, gorgeous, but take care to be sure you don't miss one of the last cabs back down (it was during their Ferrugusto holiday in August and we were nearly SOL to get back down the mountain)

Positano was worth the day trip - from Maiori, we took a bus to get the hairpin turn experience, then took the ferry back.

I could have skipped Capri though. Hot and crowded-the wait for the Funicular in the heat and crowds was awful? The ferry schedule is so short, you couldn't really do much with a daytrip. Boat tour was fun.

Highly recommend visiting a nearby winery if you have the time. You need to schedule an appointment. We had a wonderful, personalized visit at Cantina Tagliafierro winery. One of my favorite travel experiences and memories.

If you go to the beach, have flip flops or some shoes. Those pebble beaches will literally burn the bottoms of your feet.

Ravello was much cooler.

I loved the Amalfi coast in summer. We did a walking tour, and it really wasn’t crowded except in the bigger towns/cities. We spent a lot of time just with lemons and the donkeys that carry stuff up the stairs.

There were some smaller beaches that were just lovely even with crowds. Praiano, Atrani, etc.

This was 2022. It felt like high season but not really oppressively crowded (ofc ymmv where the line is). Ravello was quieter than Positano, Capri away from a few spots was also perfectly fine.

Have you ever been to New Orleans during Mardi Gras? The crowds on the Amalfi Coast reminded me of this, minus the drunkenness. I will never go back in June, July or August.
