Bethesda's 2010 MLS Next team (U14) is in it. You know why? Because it's not as competitive as other local tournaments like Jeff Cup or Copa Rayados where top tier ECNL and MLS Next teams participate.

Bethesda can't cheat the age group rules in non-MLSN tournaments by playing big athletic players down a year. In this tournament they face a bottom table ECNL team, USYS teams, and an NAL team. They still might not win it. Let's see if they lose to Laurel. Again.

What makes you think Bethesda isn't going to use their 2009 bio-banded players in the tournament? Tournament never checks roster or player cards.

I think you are mistaken. What MLSN team is at u17? If you’re talking about SAC/BA, that’s not the MLS team. That’s the second team, playing in the first bracket, which is saying something. That team plays EDP along with the others at first glance.

Maybe I’m missing something but don’t see it.

Also where’s the ECNL team? I only see RL teams.

The older age groups are required to attend an ECNL event in Richmond the same weekend.

Oh and another helpful Debbie downer. How about sharing your elaborate insight as to why?

Don’t bother, that poster just likes to hear himself talk.
No one is “relying” on this tournament…it’s just one in a large number of opportunities to be seen.
And everyone knows how hard it is to be recruited for any college soccer team on any level, but Mr. Obviously apparently feels superior when he says this over and over.
My son plays D3, as do four other kids that he played with on his ECNL-R team, so it certainly can be done for players at the level you’ll find at a tournament like this.
It takes a lot work…tons of emails, making videos, going to ID camps etc. but it can be done.

My son is a A-/B+ student in a public high school so schools like Amherst are way above his league, but I also don't see the point of paying to play in a college that's not well-known in the job market. I kept my thoughts to myself but I would rather him go to a decent college, playing soccer or not.

What do you think?

As others have said, I think you’ve got to be realistic about this tournament. There are EDP teams in top flights. There are Bethesda 3rd teams in top flights. There is very little incentive for college coaches to care in comparison to MLSN, ECNL showcases and tourneys like Jeff Cup. There is a significantly higher concentration of talent there.

The tourney is still large in terms of numbers but the top quality is not there.

There are a bunch of college coaches at the tournament.

“bunch” is relative. That’s really not that many and mostly small minor programs. I hate to burst your bubble but that that doesn’t compare to major tourneys and showcases. Also many major programs who go to the big ones don’t officially register. They just show up.

I'm guessing you haven't started looking at colleges for your DS. If you had, you would know that most boys will be lucky to play D3, even MLS next.

I don't think Potomac has billed this as a major college showcase event - it's all ages

Thank you Mr. Obvious for once again contributing nothing to this topic.
We're talking about kids who want to play D3. Of course it's small minor programs...that's what these kids are looking for. Of course it doesn't compare to major tournaments. No one is expecting that.
