I think most clubs have supplemental tryouts, especially clubs with only one team per year. It's hard to predict how many kids you'll lose. I just found that 5 kids from my daughter's team are moving to a different club, which was really surprising given that they won the division last year and are continuing to develop well.

Looks like Herndon is also promoting supplemental tryouts and another thread is talking about Arlington also doing it. It's been a common practice for most clubs looking to add additional players to complete rosters.

Only till a certain age. Once they hit U13 they play their own age group.

They clearly say the purpose "we still have some openings on our teams that we are looking to fill."

Doesn’t their first team play up a year? I always thought of their 2nd and 3rd team as being 1st and 2nd and their actual 1st team is…somewhere out there out of our league.

This is accurate to some degree.

Supplemental tryouts mean that too many kids backed out after paying the deposit. There are many parents willing to pay the nonrefundable deposit to hold a spot only to back out if they get an offer from another club to play on a higher level team.

As other's stated, they are trying to fill bottom teams that didn't get enough players to fill it. Unless you're trying to get into travel I'd pass.
