It was a deeply unfair assessment but the bigger picture to kick me out made sense —my stock package is too big, they’re trying to get profitable, etc etc. All unfair corporate bullshit but v in line w the ethos of the company. My boss is also an objectively bad boss—she has three retaliation lawsuits against her currently.
Anyways once I saw what she was doing I cut right to the chase, asked for a buy out, our lawyers negotiated everything, and I have the summer paid.
So alls well that ends well I guess but for the last three years she has been brutal. Now, as the family breadwinner, I am unemployed. I have a lot of emotions, but one of them is unbridled fury at this point.
Anyways. 30min ago a Tiffany’s box the size of my cat showed up at the doorstep with a note from her about how I shine and she loves me and will miss me.
SHE fired ME. I told her I didn’t want to go. I asked her if thsi was actually about budgets and she insisted it was about performance. And now I am staring at a large blue box with a note about what a great team member I was.
What does this all mean??????? Wtf!!!!

The present is just to smooth any rough edges, which she correctly sensed you had. There’s not a better scenario. Just take the gift and move on.
This is it. She can't be candid. I would return it to Tiffany's and use the credit towards something else, maybe for your spouse.

Do you what happened to people around me? They get an award at work, and then they're let go. The award is to soften the blow. You got your present after the fact. This is how it works. Someone probably told her to do this.
You're not special, OP. You can stop seething because it's bad for your blood pressure, and find another job, just like the rest of us. The only person you're hurting right now is yourself.
