We are all different. Not OP, but 5’7” and 220, and I’m an 18.

In my experience you lose inches or pounds, one at a time, not both together. Especially if you're working out, not just dieting. So keep going and the next "what's going on here" milestone will be being down 2 pants sizes but the scale hasn't moved. Still improving.

I can confirm that, I lost several inches and zero pounds. It was only through working out. I'm not gaining any visible muscle or lifting weights, very odd.

Have you tried taking measurements? Maybe start with some around the waist, the hip/butt, the arm, and the thigh. Since you've lost 40 pounds already, I'm sure you'll be able to lose more and then you'll be able to track changes in body circumference, even if you can't visually.

Another thing you might want to do is start exercising, specifically weight training. This will help you retain/gain muscle mass, which is what really makes people look good. I've gained 2 lbs in the past year, but my stomach actually looks better because, after doing some sit ups every single day, now you can see some muscle definition and before it was just flab.

OP here. I don't have a tape measure though I've thought about getting one. I walk 8-10K a day generally, and do weights three times a week since last fall. The shape of my arms have changed and I notice when I lift heavy things arm muscles are engaged rather than back muscles. Funny you mention sit-ups - I was actually thinking of doing some sort of stomach stuff on my non-arm days.

Then don’t use a tape measure. Use string or ribbon. You can write the date and body part on the ribbon.

When ever you’re feeling down you can pull out the waist ribbon from 20 pounds ago for motivation to keep going.

It’s better not to have numbers. You will definitely see progress.

Ugh, I’m sorry. It is so frustrating. Yeah, I’d need to lose 50lbs or so to go down a size from my stretchy 2x. It’s disheartening.

Have you tried 1x. XXL and 2x are not the same.

It technically goes L, XL, XXL, 1x, 2x, etc.

This. XXL is not 2x. The cut is completely different, and for those of us with boobs/bellies, it really does matter. Look at a size chart for whatever brand of shirt you were trying on, and note the differences. If you could get an XXL to look the way your 2x usually looks, it's because you lost weight!

I'd suggest having some non-scale goals while you're working on "onederland" (if that's your aim). How's your mobility? Can you walk longer distances than when you started? Do you need fewer breaks? When I started losing weight (again), i noticed how much easier it was to breathe because my cardio health was improving much faster than my scale numbers were dropping.

If it's just about the numbers, you'll be depressed. Look for the other wins and congratulate yourself on what you've accomplished so far. Then, keep going. One day at a time!

100% support the tape measure. The clothing size will change eventually, but the loss of inches is very exciting!

That’s a huge loss! I’m so impressed!! Don’t get discouraged, this is absolutely worth the journey. You’re still on the journey. You’ll always be on the journey. Treat yourself to a massage or pedicure to thank yourself for the hard work. You have more to go, but you’re treating yourself better than ever. You deserve it.

OP you are doing awesome, keep it up!

Get a tape measure as others suggested. Write down the other victories. Do you feel better? Sleep better? Walk faster?

If you were stretching out your t-shirts with your knees, you were in the wrong size. So you have dropped a size. 40 lbs down is no small accomplishment. Keep going!

Op, this is funny as I was just thinking about how I’ve lost 32 lb and have not dropped a size. The current size definitely looks better on me but still discouraging!

Anonymous wrote:As of this morning, I am 215lbs, down from 255. Which is great. 40 pounds is a lot, I know that. But, I am still wearing the same size clothes. 2X. I tried on a bunch of XXL and nope - while I can get them on, they hug all the fat rolls. So I lost 40 pounds and am still the same size. The only slight difference is when I put on my t-shirts, I don't have to sit with my knees up to my chest under the shirt to stretch it out. Obviously people have been taught not to comment on weight but nobody's made any comments about me looking healthy or good or any other euphemisms for having lost weight.

So I lost 40 lbs and nothing's changed, except now if I eat too much I feel sick. (Which I know is good - my stomach shrank or whatever.) I just wish I could see a real difference - my doctor had said if I lost 10% of my body weight I'd be able to lower the dose of my thyroid medication but when blood work was done she kept it the same. So not even that changed.

Read the post here called "paper towel effect" !

Hah, I posted about no one referencing weight anymore in the paper towel thread!

I'm guessing you may be similar to me, in that your clothes were too small for your previous body. I just hate shopping and hadn't been in a long time. I am down 45 lbs from my HW and definitely still wearing some of the same clothing, even though now they are getting baggy.

You are doing great! I 100% agree with measurements. Buy a cheapie tape measure right now on amazon, it'll be at your home tomorrow and you can start tracking. Maybe start taking pictures too! Just put them in a hidden folder on your phone, dont obsess and dont nitpick, just take a pic every week and add it to the folder. Maybe after a month you can go in and check out the before/after! It's hard to see the weight loss every day, but the before/after pics make it so much more obvious.
