She came home after first semester, took a semester off, and transferred to a tier 100 SLAC. She had an ok experience there.

Otherwise, you are much too old to be speaking this way about a young girl.

Sadly, I feel certain you are an adult (use of the word “blackballed” isn’t common among the younger set who probably has no context for that), but to use the phrase “pick me” type is just gross.

They don’t know it’s a good fit or not, it’s just not cool enough.


The entire point of rush week is getting to know each other and choosing girls with snap judgments like speed dating. If a house can drop you why isn’t it ok for the girls to do the same? Two way street.

They don’t know it’s a good fit or not, it’s just not cool enough.

I've never heard of a school guaranteeing a bid? Which ones?


Tufts used to guarantee bids, last I checked (2018-ish)

It happens ALLA the time but there are generally plenty of options if the kid is not set on one. They have to have an open mind.

My Dd was cut after the first day by my sorority and two that she had close friends in. She was heartbroken but ended up at the right place for her and two years later, she can’t imagine being in any other sorority.

Can you explain what this means? My daughter is going to Indiana next year and wants to join a sorority. I was not in one and do not know how to advise her, but I’m glad it’s not until 2nd semester. Does this mean that all of the girls do now receive a bid but they used to not?
