Barnard is 30% Jewish. Super orthodox communities like sending their kids there because it’s all girls.

So Barnard students shouldn’t consider themselves part of the Columbia student body but Columbia students should consider Barnard students part of Columbia? Right. Gotcha. Crystal clear.

FWIW, Barnard IS an official college of Columbia. It’s not some loose affiliation. This may offend the notions of some on here who think they know the exact pecking order of universities in this country, but it’s just a fact.

This is from Barnard's website, not from Columbia's.

There are several colleges in Columbia University. It (Barnard College) is part of Columbia University but it's not Columbia College.

What’s the over-under for how many posts before a thread becomes about condemning the protests? Robert Reich wrote an excellent article recently about the danger of conflating the protests with anti-semistism. Yes, some of the protestors say terrible things, and that’s inexcusable. Might even have a higher percentage? Women's colleges are pretty radical these days.

DCUM obsession with being the self appointed guardian of fencing off certain colleges as “elite” is mind boggling.

Agree, OP is hot and bothered because they feel that neighbor did better.

We (DD and I) visited this spring. Terrific place. Very competitive admissions. Advantages of a liberal arts college and a larger university at the same time. DD would be thrilled to go there but it will, of course, be a reach. And I think the OP is just trying to stir up drama. Who cares how an 18-year-old describes their school?
