If they are making you do something horrible and don't listen to your concerns, talk to HR or another person on the team in private to ask for advice

I’ve never called a boss out. I would say something in private. I view it as my job to support my boss.

I suppose if really big mistake I would say something like “actually just got this information a few months ago that might help . . . “

I'm a boss, and it depends. If I make a mistake and you know I haven't realized it, then i appreciate the correction. As long as you are being helpful, I don't mind. But if "call out" means trying to embarrass or one-up me for personal benefit, then your days are numbered.

Correct a factual error boss made that could impact the outcome during a decision-making meeting? Absolutely do it, professionally.
Go on a rant about how terrible they are? Certainly not.
