Even my old swimmers like towel pants. (on amazon/etsy/local swim shop) and get an extra pair of goggles and an extra swim cap to keep in their bag - they always break at the least opportune times.

In our summer swim bag we have:

- a towel
- a water bottle
- 50,000 pairs of the same exact goggles
- and sunscreen

That’s all you need. We have parkas and they do come in handy for time trials, but that’s pretty much the only time they wear them. It warms up pretty quickly.
Also a tip for goggles. Since you can’t write their name on them, we get those stick-eez from Oliver’s labels and wrap it around the strap. Works like a charm.

Interestingly, my kid never came close to needing a swim parka for indoor meets this winter (they keep the temps so hot in there), but used it for his very first outdoor meet this weekend! But agree I wouldn't buy one just for summer swim meets.

Swim parka is overkill.

The goggles - get extra once they know what they like.

Towels - early in the season, think one towel per event plus for warmup. Like 4 of them. They get wet and then cold and then you need a new one!
The backpack isn’t required but it is helpful to hold the towels.

If diving as well - even more towels.

Sunscreen
Backup goggles and caps
Extra towels--at least 2 per meet
Trash bags--for when it rains
Sweatshirt and pants for cool mornings. Swim parkas are too expensive.
Card games and such to pass time at meets
A good attitude and a lot of patience

Fuzzy character onesie shaped like animals or Pixar characters are also a favorite cover up at our pool!

We have swim parka for each kid to wear between heats.

Goggles. Lots of goggles! Be prepared for lost goggles

A routine and place in the home to hang wet suits and towels.

Good snack/meal container for swim meets.

Cheap shoes (flip flops) for meets- labeled with swimmers name.

Label everything with your name!!
