If it's cheaper its even better
But I don't understand all your questions OP. These should have been explored BEFORE applying for the transfer, surely?

UMD #57
UVA #119
Those Europeans must be provincial.
I'm sorry to say your numbers and attempt to be insulting is actually meaningless. I'd not send my kids to either place, but coming from London (Chelsea) originally, all the rich kids who want to go to US universities either apply to the Ivies or UVA. That's just how it roles.

Need help to decide if he should stay in UMD or move to UVA.
Looking for more information on premed opportunities in research/clinical research at UVA and the attached hospital. How hard it is to keep the grades up in UVA.
And if there is a real repute difference between to two to make a difference in Med school acceptance.
He volunteers at local Fairfax hospitals and has a couple of research opportunities in UMD BC for which he has to commute.
The cost difference is 10k per year with UVA being cheaper for us.
UVA is ticked off at a higher tier than UMD, per med school admissions committees. UVA is "Tier 2" below Ivy/+ schools and Amherst, Williams, Swarthmore. UMD is the tier below. Undergrad is a small but meaningful factor in med admissions. They need to study hard and get highest grades possible once they transfer.
Is this speculation or knowledge? If it knowledge, it is likely just from one institution, right?
well, particular grad schools aside, UVA in general is ranked well above UMD on USNWR public university rankings. UVA is at 5, UMD is at 19 or something. https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-universities/top-public
[b]The question was whether medical school admission committes give a boost to certain schools over others. USNWR doesn't answer that.
That was NOT the question. Go look above ."UVA is tickedoff at a higher tier than UMD".
The full sentence was "UVA is tickedoff at a higher tier than UMD per med school admissions committees". The implication is UVA gets preference. I questioned that.
But you shouldn't question is since UVA is always ranked above UMD on the rankingservices

Is this speculation or knowledge? If it knowledge, it is likely just from one
Amherst and Williams are 3rd tier?? With UMD?
Sounds doubtful to me.
