I seem to always get started on Macrobid. After the culture returns I might be switched depending what's happening.
Last time I wound up on Cipro even though the culture showed that the bacteria should have been taken care of by Macrobid. I was on Macrobid for a week without improvement, but Cipro wiped it out in less than 2 days.
I had that exact scenario last year. Thankfully I had no issues with Cipro and it did clear the infection in 1-2 days.

NP. My understanding is that Bactrim is no longer the first line for UTIs, for that exact reason. I much prefer Bactrim (in my experience, it starts working much faster than Macrobid), but my doc won’t prescribe it.

Which antibiotic? Many UTI’s are resistant to Bactrim. I usually get macrobid and occasionally switch up with cephalexin if the macrobid isn’t working. Try to avoid Cirpro if you can.

are you sure it's a UTI and not a kidney stone? In retrospect I realized that most of my emergency situations with pain and bleeding were actually related to kidney stones. I also had a uti but that was just a symptom and not the actual problem.
