And FTR, this is precisely what my parents did. And it was a long, hard road. Prevented me from savings, home, etc. for much longer than it would have with a little help. And that was 30 years ago. It's MUCH harder now.

Same here. DC, college junior, has a good internship this summer 15 min from our house. If it turns into a FT job after college I think it would be great for him to live with us another year or two and bank his salary to buy a place vs. paying rent in an expensive area.

Steelmanning to add that people are more and more socially dysfunctional, and therefore they are not going to be living together with roommates. And the dating scene having transitioned to what it is, they're not going to be living together with marriage partner, nor significant other.

+1 on not understanding the post but there does seem to be a trend toward multigenerational living.

As the % of Asian American and Hispanics grows, so does multigenerational living. It’s common in these cultures.

As the cost for rent and housing rises, adult children with parents in areas with good job opportunities are trending toward this. As zoning changes and ADUs are more common this is becoming easier.

GenX was far more attentive to their kids than their boomer parents. Some have not lreally transitioned to living without them and encourage this.

DH and I have a largish house in one of the most expensive areas to live. If one of our adult kids land here for jobs and don’t want to spend 3-4K a month on a one bedroom then we’ll stay.

Are these US statistics? I ask because for many cultures it's ok to stay home until you are ready or married.
