Hahahaha! No, there's no salad bar. Maybe some carrot sticks or a pre packed salad with a bit of dressing. But you can google MCPS meals and see the menus.

My 8 yo likes exactly 2 things on the lunch menu. We pack lunch nearly every day.

They should if they don't have it already! But a PP said the salad is prepacked. Wonder what's in that pack? Do they get salad dressing?

It's because it's disgusting. Their words not mine. They don't even attempt to eat it, it goes directly in the trash. Nothing to do with long lines. They all complain MCPS school lunch is gross. A lot of kids are always asking mine for their lunch and I feel bad. Do your kids a huge favor, pack their lunch.

There is so much food waste! It’s incredibly disheartening to see how much gets tossed everything from milk to fruits and vegetables. Main dishes are barely eaten.

I understand that the school system wants food to be nutritional but what good is nutritional food when it’s not been eaten? Bring back the days when food was tastier and actually eaten even if it means a slightly higher salt content or using quite bread instead of whole-grain and whole wheat.

I haven’t seen a salad bar in any of the schools I’ve worked at/had kids attend. At my ES the salad is prepacked in plastic cups with lids but it is one of a handful of items that is prepared at school.

Aside from whatever your opinion is about school lunch, plan to pack it for the beginning of the year. It’s always chaotic and slow at the beginning of the year as newcomers learn the system and the bumps get smoothed out. Kids who plan to buy their lunch those first few days may not have time to eat it. Waiting will also give you and your kids an opportunity to make a more informed decision about which lunch arrangements everyone would prefer.

pack lunch. kids bought few times said food was ok. yes said classmates throw away lot of it usually because not enough time to finish after standing in long lunch lines in ES.
