The Brookland community is pushing back. More and more young families, which I expect will increase even more when the old ballet school property on Taylor is finished remodeling as another charter school.

If DC as a whole can get its act together on crime, it will be a great area. Campus feels very safe with one side always bustling with people visiting the basilica. That new building on Michigan Ave closes it up well.

Exactly. I know several people who live there. It's very artsy and nice but possibly a soft target for crime. We have that problem in Takoma Park as well.
To thise concerned, go hang out there and see for yourself.

People who have never been to "the hood" think it is super ghetto. It is not. Not even close.

That said it is not the safest place. I know people in / from the neighborhood who have been robbed.

It's a real shame. Such a nice school and a lot of nice things nearby. DC is like that.

CUA just sent another “please apply” email to my senior, who hasn’t thought about a school that close to home even if living on campus.

Any more recent news about safety on/near campus?

I work near there. The campus and basilica feels safe. Lots of tourists coming around now.

Metro feels like it does every other place in the city - overrun by hoodlum teens and young adult riff raff sometimes.

I don’t spend a lot of time walking in the neighborhoods but it seems like DC crime is non-punishable offense so it is what it is, and that’s the same everywhere.

I’ve been there for 8 years and have never had an issue.

I was a student at Catholic in the early 90s. The area off campus was sketchy and had issues then. I’ve been to campus and the surrounding areas for a variety of activities over the last several years. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m older, but it feels less safe than when I was a student. I don’t know if my junior will even consider the school when he applies later this year. I’m relieved.
