How was your school's prom and after-event?

So, a $65-90 ticket for Prom is going towards graduation costs? How about costs for Prom venue, food drinks at prom, DJ, lighting etc..? Where is that $ coming from?

Many schools use the Prom as a fundraiser to pay Graduation costs the school has to pay such as venue rental, busses for staff and band, gowns for staff, etc. That is why ticket cost so much.

Do students show up in their everyday clothes like ones worn to school? It sounds silly. But these costs for one night?!

Mine hasn’t decided on a dress yet but all of them weee under $100–I tried to talk her into something more expensive and she was resistant. Apparently cheap looking is in—she said the expensive ones looked too nice. Tickets are $70 to the prom.


Mine will do her own hair and nails and makeup because she doesn’t trust anyone else to do it (curly hair) but I’ll pay for a fancy hair clip or pins if she wants them.

I’m sure they will go out to dinner but it won’t be a fancy place.

They will drive themselves. I think there is an after prom party — as a junior she went only to the after party as not as many juniors went without dates to the actual prom. I think one of her friends is also having the friend group over afterwards. Hoping she won’t go to whatever huge rager is being planned by people that plan such things.

So I think we are probably at $200-$300 all in, depending on dinner costs and whether she gets new shoes or just borrows heels from me.

I'm assuming he will never wear the tux again, will gain freshman 15 so won't fit him next year. So why buy only to store in back of closet?

I counted hair but really she just scheduled her regular cut appointment for right before prom so I lumped it into the cost.

could save money if you or friend or aunt etc who has the time before prom to do hair. How much for an updo if young adults even do those these days, more than $50? no clue.
