Maybe that is you kids life experience but I can assure you that some of us have kids with more life experience than what you suggest. Further considering the SMOB is a student in the system they clearly know something about education. The also directly understand and have seen how decision are impacting real students. Some of them are already 18 or will be turning 18 soon so soon to be voters.

And how do you know what the know how Special Needs or ADHD. And it was the SMOB that was fighting to ensure that all students took a Personal Finance Class.

By the way, here are some things that 17-year-olds (unlike 2-year-olds) can do:

1. hold a real job
2. pay taxes (income taxes, sales taxes)
3. vote in a real election (if they're turning 18 by election day in November)

This is such an uninformed ridiculous rant. Stereotyping these young adults as knowing nothing but “the Gram” and ignoring they do know about topics like education, ADHD, special needs. Likewise the BOE doesn’t set property tax rates — maybe if you don’t understand how budgeting works for schools you shouldn’t go around calling other people idiots?

Finally it’s not as if a majority of the board is students. They are there to bring a perspective and make a contribution and they do that very well but they can’t make decisions unless a majority of the board agrees.

School board would be worse off without them.

Honestly the SMOBs seem to bring more accountability to MCPS than other members. I was surprised when we moved out here that they did it, but now I am glad they are on.
