No! He’s a government lawyer! With a security clearance and everything. This is what makes it so baffling.

Having a clearance just means you were never caught doing something illegal. It most certainly does not mean being an upstanding person with excellent ethics and morals.

But he is a lawyer. Which means he absolutely understands the potential consequences, and he is stealing small things.

How does a grown adult still have kleptomania? Is he mentally ill?

You need to back away and he needs to stop. Grocery stores are REALLY upping their security game at self check out. I’m a middle aged UMC white woman who would never dream of stealing from the grocery store and I’ve been stopped twice recently - once at Giant and once at WF - for a check of my bags/receipt. And reminded that they have cameras everywhere. Strange and scary.

NO ADULT I know, man or woman, steals from the grocery store, OP. I'm 44. Some teens do this, because their brains aren't mature yet, and they want to experience that thrill. But you do not want a man-child on your hands who thinks it's OK to do this, since it means he will have many other questionable ethics, impulsive and destructive behaviors.

Also, you do not want to be an accomplice when he gets caught.

DO NOT go to any store with this person, and disentangle yourself from him as soon as you can.

He's a bad guy - move on from him and find someone who knows right from wrong.

Right. I understand the urge to “stick it to the man”, but this feels over the line.

No, most men do not do this.

Thanks for the gut check! This felt really off to me, and I hadn’t considered I could be arrested too, so thanks for pointing that out.

No, most men don't do this. I would never be with someone who is this off morally but also this stupid. Getting arrested over $50?

If she wasn't there how would she get arrested? Yes, this is a deal breaker for me too though.
