I really liked Brightview West End in downtown Rockville. Very nice location, nice facility, lots going on and the food was good. If you can afford a few extra dollars, the concierge floor was well worth it. They have happy hour every night, their own cozy living room and outdoor space and the floor is attended from 8-8 each day with a concierge who will do anything and everything.
Is Brightview a not-for-profit?
It is. My parent was there for several years and happy there till they passed. The food was decent, not great but overall a good experience. The price isn't unreasonable for your own apartment.
If Brightview is nonprofit, why is its website a .com?
I think they are for profit but personally I don’t care as most nonprofit are shady.

My parents have been in a Brightview for a year now and they are happy. It's very safe (no steps, call buttons in the apartment), with plenty of opportunities to be social if they want. The food is fine, but not fabulous. The staff is very engaged and goes out of their way to be helpful. Go check out of a few locations because they all have different vibes, and keep in mind that rent will increase each this, this year it went up 6%.

I would also look into small group homes. They don't always have the advertisement budget lots of the bigger places have, and they're not CCRC, but if you just need AL, they can be a lot more affordable and your loved one can get more attention since there are often only 4-6 people in a home.
They are really really really bad. Brooke Grove is the worst.
We are not looking at small retirement homes that would not work for our needs.
